Embracing Tranquility: the Lake District’s Allure for Families

The Lake District is an ideal destination for a family holiday, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, outdoor adventures, and cultural experiences. With its picturesque lakes, heritage valleys, and iconic fells, the National Park provides a stunning backdrop for memorable family moments.

For the active ones amongst us, embark on scenic walks through woodlands, around lakes and up to the summit of fells, where imaginations can run wild and breath taking views add that little extra to each moment. Fancy a change of activity, there are forests nearby for bike rides or in the warmer months pick up a paddle and head out on the water by kayak or paddle board. For more genteel days, or perhaps those rainy ones, immerse yourself in the culture of the Lakes. Museums talk of the landscapes heritage and also who they inspired. You can even take a journey into history aboard steam trains and yacht gondolas.

Welcome to Langdale Chase: A Family-Focused Retreat

At Langdale Chase you can be reassured you’re all in good hands. We’re part of a family business that is over 200 years old, so we know how important these moments are with your closest loved ones. To make you feel at home we’ve created two family suites, both overlooking the lake with separate bedrooms and bathrooms for parents and children, don’t worry about being on top of each other here – it’s a holiday after all. Our suites also include living rooms to relax in for when you really just want to chill. Downstairs you’ll find a number of spacious lounges to sit back and unwind, sipping on a drink or perhaps grabbing some lunch. We’ve plenty of books to read but also plugs to charge those dreaded iPhones, we know how hard it is to get the kids off them.

For more special moments have a wander down to our cellar where you’ll discover our cinema room. Playing a number of films that everyone will enjoy throughout the day you’ll all be entertained whilst hidden away from it all. Popcorn is on hand and the fridge is stocked with ice cream, tuck in. Keep this one a secret if you wish but you’ll find sweet treats dotted throughout the hotel for the younger ones (or older we don’t judge) to enjoy. A treasure hunt around an old house anyone?

Our waterfront location is also great for you and your family, no busy roads to cross here. Instead, once you drive through our gates get out of the car and let the children run free. They can explore our Thomas Mawson gardens, marvel at just how tall the trees are and set foot on our jetties. Just please keep an eye on them, the water is always cold and we’ll have other guests relaxing in our gardens.

Whilst we’d love for you to stay with us all day, we know the Lake District is about exploring, that’s why we’ve partnered with some local activity providers and expert guides to make everything as easy as possible. Our friends at Graythwaite Adventure are on hand for axe throwing, archery, 4×4 off roading, as well as watersports in the warmer months. Steve Watts MBE is our in house walking guide, getting you all out on the fells and discovering hidden secrets from caves to waterfalls.
